You might wonder why I'm saying that Search Engine Optimization Services are dead; well, that's because there's a new kid on the block, and that new kid is Web 2.0 and Social Media. Search Engine Marketing has just evolved. In the old days, before Web 2.0 (Web 2.0 is best explained by saying that it's websites like Facebook, MySpace, Twitter, etc.; websites where users can share content) a web site owner would have a website built and optimized so that it could be found on Google, AltaVista, Yahoo! or Lycos. The website would be optimized for a few keyword phrases, and then the owner would sit back and wait for online shoppers to visit.
This is not the strategy to implement these days! These days you can focus on a keyword rich website and follow all the guide lines set out by Google but you will still only be able to achieve one spot on the front page of Google, and that's if you're lucky.
However by implementing a Web 2.0 marketing strategy you can achieve multiple listings on the first page of Google for each of your keyword phrases. This is an extraordinary phenomena, put another way it's like taking the Yellow Pages (you know, the old telephone directory sitting by your front door waiting to be recycled) and ripping out every page except the one you're on and then taking a magic marker and blacking out virtually every other entry on that page. Would that be good for your business? So now you know why Search Engine Optimization is dead and the new kid on the block is Social Media and Web 2.0 and they will lead the way for the foreseeable future of online marketing.
